About
The Alli Serona Collective’s aim is to create inclusive cities. A big part of this vision is ensuring easy access to mobility for all, especially women and children. However, in Bengaluru, women continue to struggle with limited access to public transport. This is a complex problem involving multiple stakeholders, and the Alli Serona Collective didn’t know where to begin.
We partnered with the collective to lead a two-year project that started with an analog walking audit of the neighbourhood and nearby bus stops. Together, we identified key interventions and proposed eight new bus routes in the city that would connect low-income communities to more opportunities. By leveraging social media, traditional media, and persistent stakeholder engagement, we turned advocacy into action.
The result: two new bus routes were introduced by the BMTC in 2024, giving over 3,000 people better access to public transport! Further, 300 women from low-income neighbourhoods gained the vocabulary and agency to address urban challenges themselves, empowering the community to shape its own future.
